Direct Assistance/Case Management

When people in need come to the Samaritan Center for help, they have their situations evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Whether they have recently lost a job, had an illness or injury that had caused them to miss work, been the victim of a fire or a natural disaster, or something more, the case workers at the Samaritan Center go through a screening process to evaluate each client's level of need.

After a thorough conversation (with documents such as rent/utility/food receipts, work pay stubs, etc. to substantiate the client's story), the case worker decides in which ways the Center can help that individual or family.

Assistance may include any of the following:

  • Partial help with utilities, rent, or life-sustaining medications
  • Food pantry assistance
  • A voucher to "shop" in the stores for items such as clothing, furniture, and household items
  • Personal care products for hygiene
  • Home cleaning products
  • Baby supplies such as blankets, bottles, formula, and diapers
  • School supplies
  • Christmas toys
  • Much, much more

One of the Samaritan Center's top priorities is maintaining the dignity of the people who come there for help. When clients feel that many aspects of their lives are out of control, the Center hopes to empower them by letting them choose.

When clients are in need of clothing, they are given a voucher to pick out what they need from the store just like a regular shopper. The same goes for food, bedding, furniture, household appliances, school supplies, personal care products, and more.

At every juncture, the Samaritan Center aims to prepare clients for a return to self-sufficiency. Until then, its employees and supporters hope that the Center's services will bring "help for today and hope for tomorrow" to the lives of those they touch.
