Thrift Shops

When most people think of the Samaritan Center, our thrift stores are the first things that pop into their minds.

Most people understand that our thrift stores are special ministries in that they help community members stretch every dollar to the max and help find new homes for usable items that would otherwise meet their demise in landfills.

What most people don’t realize, however, is that our thrift stores are not ministries that stand alone; on the contrary, they are pillars that help support an array of other missions.

The main mission that our thrift stores’ sales help support our social services agency programs that provide aid for the residents of Eastern Hamilton County in getting food on the table, keeping the lights on, making sure there’s a roof over their heads, or obtaining life-sustaining medicines.

Sometimes the emergency aid we offer comes in the form of clothing, housewares, appliances, or other items that are available in our shops. In those instances, gift certificates to our thrift stores are the perfect tools for clients, enabling them to pick out the items that they need most and maintain their dignity at the same time.

Sometimes, rather than selling items that are donated to our shops, we share them with worthy mission projects that are local or overseas. If we ever encounter items in good condition that we can’t give away or sell, we make a point of passing them on to other charitable agencies that can use them to help people in ways that we could not.

After all, in every step of our thrift ministry, our top goal is always finding the best way to be good stewards of what we’ve been given.
